Chicago’s Already Booming Podcast Scene Just Got Hotter

Written by Lauren Ryback | May 14, 2018

Chicago is known for its killer music and comedy scenes, amazing sports teams, bold architecture and diverse dining, among many other draws. But in recent years, it’s become a hotbed for the podcast community. It’s a good position to be in: as of the end of 2017, 112 million Americans have listened to a podcast, and that number just keeps on increasing. Let’s face it: we’re turning into earbud junkies. From in-depth cultural explorations of the city’s history to deep dives into film criticism to hilarious improv hijinks, Chicago’s podcast landscape is a rich one to say the least. And with the opening of Moxy Chicago Downtown this month, a new chapter is about to be written.

The boutique hotel in Chicago’s designated playground, River North, is home to the Moxy brand’s first permanent Podcast booth. Dubbed Soundoff and located right in the Living Room (lobby), it’s a podcaster’s dream come true, outfitted with state-of-the-art recording equipment and soundproof walls. Will the next hot Chicago ‘cast be created here? It’s very possible.

Meanwhile, the Moxy SoundOff Podcast Series is kicking off this month as well, featuring a rotating roster of local and national podcasters bringing their unique stories and skills to a fun, audience friendly setting in the hotel. A good time is guaranteed.
