Facebook’s Relationship Status Crystal Ball

Facebook knows when you’re breaking up before you do. Researchers found that a user is more likely to visit his or her significant other’s Facebook page immediately before and after the breakup. They also saw a 25 percent increase in travel-related purchases a month before users change their relationship statuses to “Single” … because running away from your problems is always the answer, right? Since the platform is pushing retail therapy to the lonely hearts club this Valentine’s Day, we're changing our relationship status with Facebook to "It's complicated."

#FriendGoals > #CoupleGoals

Who says Valentine’s Day is only for those lucky enough to be in a relationship? What about Singles Day? Turns out many people are buying gifts for their friends, co-workers, or pets instead of their special someone. According to Bing.com, 22 percent of people fill in “husband” when they search for “Valentine’s Day Gifts” with “friend” coming in a close second at 20 percent.

Skip the Flowers – Send a Skype

Skype is bringing us a new (and easier) way to tell our loved ones how much we care. Users can create videos with floating hearts and send them across the world via video-chat, email, and other social platforms. That’s not all! In a partnership with Rogue Octopus, the “moji” feature lets Skypers send short Valentine-themed video clips that can be unpacked like boxes and shared over the app.

Love Goes Mobile

Shopping on the go for Valentine's Day is a relatively new idea. But it’s growing. Last year, 48 percent of Valentine’s Day searches from Bing came from mobile devices. It’s no surprise that the top mobile search was for jewelry and bling since 50 percent of marriage proposals happen on February 14th.  Procrastinators take note: most Valentine’s Day shopping happens in the two weeks leading up to the holiday, so if you’re still looking for that perfect gift, don’t worry, you have time.
