Beyond Art Basel Miami Beach: 3 Destinations for Art Lovers

Art Basel Miami Beach is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year and promises to be bigger, better and bolder than ever. As one of the world’s preeminent Modern and contemporary art shows is only two weeks out, we have compiled a variety of destinations that will get you inspired for Art Basel. Art lovers can explore and experience unique art galleries, installations and artists throughout Toronto, Bermuda and South Walton.

Toronto

Toronto's art scene is exploding with new talent and galleries.  The Junction, located in the city’s West End area has emerged as one of the best art scenes, and only a few years ago this was an area where you definitely did not want to hang out.  Toronto’s night markets are a must for art lovers seeking local talent. These night markets are a collective mix of local artist with diverse cultures. Additionally, the Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto is moving to a new home and location and will reopen its doors in 2017.

Bermuda

The colors of Bermuda (pink sand, turqouise water, pastel buildings) provided inspiration for many artistic greats. Art lovers can experience Bermuda as seen through the eyes of artists like Winslow Homer, Georgia O’Keeffe, Charles Demuth, Jack Bush and Albert Glees among many others at the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art. Additionally, the recently renovated Hamilton Princess & Beach Club hotel is home to an exceptional art collection with more than 60+ museum-quality pieces of art found throughout the hotel. Pieces by Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, Jeff Koons, Alexander Calder, Jasper Johns,Tom Sachs, Andy Warhol, Tom Wassermann, Banksy, Ai Weiwei, Takieshi Murakamis and Yayoi Kusama Pumpkin are scattered throughout the property.

South Walton, FL

South Walton offers a different kind of Florida escape – one with all the sun and sand you expect, but with a cultural allure that sets it apart. The area’s numerous artists’ colonies and more than 20 art studios and galleries form a vibrant creative community of fine painters, crafters, and sculptors. There’s art on every corner here. The sound of live music adds an infectious soundtrack to the air. And The Seaside Repertory Theater (The REP, as locals call it) brings an array of performing arts to South Walton –plays, ballets, musicals and more.
