Drumroll Please …

We interrupt your regularly scheduled Weekly Download to announce that TURNER has been named one of OUTSIDE’s Best Places To Work 2017. “Some companies go beyond kegerators and ping-pong,” write the magazine’s editors. “From unlimited vacation time to powder days, these are the places that know how to treat their employees.” As far as 20 th birthday presents go (TURNER was founded in 1997), this recognition can’t be beat. If you’re wondering why working here is a true dream job, here are a handful of reasons.

Take A Hike

There is a dazzling array of ways to us to enjoy the great outdoors these days, from mountain biking to standup paddleboarding. But the most popular outdoor adventure is the most tried-and-true: hiking. The Adventure Travel Trade Association reports that hiking is now the most popular activity for adventure travelers. “The study noted that travelers are putting more emphasis on personal transformation while they travel,” says Travel + Leisure’s Andrea Romano. “So it’s no wonder that hiking — often considered transformative and featured in popular books and movies like ‘ Wild’ — is a new favorite.”

Roaming Right

As outdoor travel becomes more and more travel, some adventurers may need a crash course in how to properly respect the natural landscapes that give us so much joy. Norway is taking matters into its own hands. It’s part of a national philosophy known as “ fjellvettreglene” (the “mountain code”), which encourages people to have a healthy and respectful relationship with nature. “Fjellvettreglene taught us nature doesn’t care about our egos,” overnight guide Erlend Indrearne told the BBC. “We should show as much respect and take as much caution as possible.” As tourism to Norway’s beautiful spots – such as the incredible rock formation of Trolltunga – increases, the country is introducing more and more educational elements that will preserve and protect these attractions for generations to come.

Adventure Photography

As much as we’d like it, not all of us can be out in the world finding new adventures in the outdoors. Fortunately, there are many photographers doing it for us. Gear Patrol has rounded up the most influential adventure photographers on Instagram – instant travel eye-candy bliss. “To become a major influencer, it takes more than just posting daily and growing your followers — it is a journey filled with long nights, early mornings, crazy clients, tight budgets and hard work,” the editors write. “It requires an undying passion for the craft that must shine through in every post, both in imagery and captions. The stories are what inspire people to join their journeys and with time, feel as if they’re friends.”
