New Search & Explore Options on Instagram

Instagram introduced two major search-friendly updates that make it even easier for people to find content, encouraging brands to leverage events and locations for greater discovery on the visual network. “This development is useful for any brand who wants to research what users are posting and reacting well to on Instagram — especially in preparation for UGC contests, brainstorming campaign ideas, or finding influencers.”

YouTube Introduces Eyewitness Videos

With Periscope and Snapchat quickly gaining popularity, YouTube is no longer the go-to platform for real-time sharing of news and events. In order to keep up, YouTube introduced the Newswire as a way to “provide journalists with an invaluable resource to discover news video around major events, and to highlight eyewitness video that offers new perspectives on important news stories.”

A Social Network for Freelancers

The Washington Post built a custom, LinkedIn-connected social network for its freelancers to better match skills to stories. The in-house Talent Network lets freelance journalists connect with the appropriate editors, while also letting the Post's editors draw more easily on each others' freelance contacts. New Facebook Mobile Ads

The social network showed off a prototype of its new mobile ad unit at Cannes Lions earlier this week, going beyond links and carousels to an interactive, 360-degree fully immersive ad experience that relies on video and can be navigated with one finger. This is another huge step for mobile advertising as video content continues to gain traction in the social space.
