Wakanda Fashion Week

This year’s Fashion Week is underway in New York City – but many fashionistas have been transported from the Big Apple to Wakanda. What’s Wakanda? It’s the fictional African country that provides the setting for The Black Panther, the hotly anticipated Marvel Studios film hitting theaters today. Labels including Chromat, Cushnie et Ochs, LaQuan Smith, Ikiré Jones, Sophie Theallet and TOME all showed off Wakanda-inspired looks during an inclusive show – proceeds went to support Save The Children. Off The Runway

The runway shows during New York Fashion Week are essential of course. But don’t miss the style of the streets. “Whilst big names like Tom Ford and Alexander Wang rule the runways inside, the real talent of consumer fashion tends to fall on the streets,” says Luc Wiesman at D’Marge. Here’s a gallery of the hottest menswear spotted recently, from daring denim to sharp geometric patterns. Never mind your crystal ball – this might just be the clearest look into what you’ll be seeing everywhere next winter.

Claw Clipping

The hottest trend of NYFW? You might be surprised. The claw clip is back. Marie Claire’s Chloe Metzger is on the scene: “Alexander Wang brought back the jaw/claw/banana clip from yesteryear by sending its models down the runway with silver and black clips for its Fall 2018 collection. And people, including yours truly, are here for it.” That’s right – your middle school hair accessory of choice is now high fashion. What goes around comes around.

NYFW’s Cheesiest Look

Claw Clips aren’t the oddest accessory trend this year, though. It’s even cheesier. Fashionista reports: “At Chromat’s Fall 2018 show, that meant a body-diverse cast of models parading down the runway in swimwear and form-fitting dresses with Cheetos strapped to their waists or energy drinks peeking out of pockets. A few models even popped open their bags of cheesy snacks and began munching just before reaching the flashing cameras at the end of the catwalk.” Junk food haute couture? Hey, stranger things have happened … right?
